Before you use these

  • NMI sandbox accounts are already in test mode, so these work without switching anything on.
  • NMI does not publish a per-card decline list; use the amount trigger to test declines.
  • These numbers are published by NMI for sandbox testing. They are not real cards and cannot be used for a real purchase.

How to use NMI test cards

  1. Switch your NMI integration to its test or sandbox environment and use test credentials. Live credentials reject these numbers.
  2. Enter a card number from the tables above. Expiry: 10/29. Security code: CVV 999 returns a match.
  3. Start with a successful card to confirm the happy path, then work through the decline and error cards so every failure message in your checkout gets exercised.
  4. Run the authentication cards through your full checkout to test the 3-D Secure challenge and its success and failure outcomes.
  5. Use the trigger values (amount and cvv triggers) to simulate outcomes that are not tied to a card number.

NMI test card FAQ

How do I trigger a decline in the NMI sandbox?

Submit a transaction for an amount below 1.00. Any of the standard test cards will then be declined.

What are the NMI test card numbers?

How do I test a declined payment with NMI?

NMI triggers failures through amount and cvv triggers as well as dedicated card numbers. Both are listed on this page.
